Business Advisory Philosophy

My approach to business advisory services

Economics of Angel Investing

In about 2011 I began working on a book – WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD – about angel investing. As SR&ED financial specialist with one of Canada’s leading CPA firms, I wanted to gain a greater understanding of the financial underpinnings of venture funding for technology startups. In this short video I have attempted to outline the risks for entrepreneurs – and investors alike. I learned what kinds of returns are required to make angel investing work – after a fashion.

What Type of Business Entity Should I Choose?

The conventional wisdom in online advisory sites – like SMALL BUSINESS BC in British Columbia – and generally across the internet, needs to be taken with a grain of salt. When it comes to business advice, context is crucial.

Complexity is such that professional accountants AND lawyers should be consulted when it comes to structuring your business.

At a start up phase one of the three common forms of business entity will suit most businesses. However businesses often change from one type of entity to another as their needs change. No amount of online content will serve to prepare the unititiated to make that transition. Changing your business structure WILL require professional help.
